The passenger ferry departs from the Breakwater Ferry Terminal, also known as the Townsville terminal or Breakwater Terminal, located in South Townsville. This passenger ferry service is efficient, taking approximately 20-25 minutes to reach the island. Services run frequently throughout the day, so while pre-booking isn’t always strictly necessary for walk-on passengers, it’s advisable during peak seasons or for specific departure times to guarantee your spot.
Car Ferry: Can you take a car over to Magnetic Island? Yes, you can certainly take a car on the ferry to Magnetic Island. A dedicated car ferry service also operates from the South Townsville area. This is ideal if you plan to explore the island extensively at your own pace and prefer the convenience of having your own vehicle. The car ferry typically takes a bit longer than the passenger ferry, around 40-45 minutes.
This depends on your itinerary and how long you plan to stay. For a short day trip, relying on the island bus or hiring a scooter might be sufficient. We offer fully self-contained, self-catering accommodation, daily servicing is not provided. On arrival we provide a starter pack in your apartment consisting of tea, coffee, milk, toilet tissue, soap and shampoo along with bed linen, bath towels, bath mat and tea towel. All other personal items should be brought with you. Pool / Beach towels are available for hire from reception for $5 for your entire stay.
