Mantra Nelson Bay’s Sustainability Commitment
Mantra Nelson Bay is located within the Port Stephens region of New South Wales on Worimi Country
Environmental Responsibility:
We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint through responsible resource management, waste minimisation, and continuous improvement across all operations. Our approach includes conserving water and energy, reducing waste generation, and implementing efficient technologies such as low‑flow showerheads and energy‑saving systems. We maintain comprehensive guest and back‑of‑house recycling programs and actively work to prevent mould and maintain healthy air quality in our tropical climate.
Current Initiatives
- Plastic bottle recycling bins available throughout the properties, supported by guest signage
- Linen reuse program to reduce water and chemical consumption
- 7+ night stay service schedule, with linen changes only on request to minimise water and energy use
- Preventative maintenance program to reduce water wastage (leaks, air‑conditioning efficiency, etc.)
- Stock control processes to minimise waste from minibars and amenities.
- Electric Vehicle Charging Station
Community Engagement
Mantra Nelson Bay actively supports and engages with the local community through meaningful partnerships, volunteer initiatives, and the sourcing of local products and services. Strengthening these connections helps us contribute to the social, cultural, and economic wellbeing of the region we call home.
Continuous Improvement in Sustainability
We are committed to continually enhancing our environmental performance through a range of targeted sustainability initiatives. As part of this commitment, the property is exploring opportunities to better support environmentally conscious travellers, including electric vehicle (EV) owners.
Management is currently assessing ways to increase the visibility of EV‑friendly features and evaluating the feasibility of expanding EV infrastructure in the future. This includes reviewing options to improve promotion to EV travellers and investigating potential upgrades that would make the property even more accessible to guests seeking low‑impact travel choices.
In addition, Mantra Nelson Bay will undertake a detailed review of the performance and output of its existing solar pool heating system. This assessment will help identify opportunities to maximise renewable energy utilisation and further reduce reliance on grid‑supplied electricity.
Environmental performance will continue to be monitored through regular reviews of energy and utility consumption data, maintenance records, guest feedback, and staff suggestions, ensuring we remain responsive, informed, and committed to ongoing improvement.
Supplier Relations:
We work closely with suppliers who share our commitment to responsible and sustainable practices. We encourage ethical sourcing, reduced packaging, and environmentally conscious product choices to minimise the environmental impact across our supply chain.
Employee Training:
We equip all team members with clear, practical sustainability guidance, enabling them to actively contribute to our environmental initiatives. Through regular communication, our people understand why sustainable operations matter and feel confident championing these practices every day.
Guest Education:
We strive to educate and engage our guests in our sustainability journey by promoting responsible behaviours, sharing information about our initiatives, and encouraging participation in programs such as linen reuse and recycling. Together, we foster a shared sense of environmental responsibility. See below on what you can do to help protect Culture and the Environment.
Continuous Improvement:
We continuously monitor, measure, and review our sustainability performance to identify opportunities for improvement. By adopting new technologies, refining operational practices, and learning from industry best practice, we strengthen our long‑term environmental outcomes.
Compliance:
We are committed to meeting or exceeding all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and industry standards. Our operations are guided by responsible practices that ensure the protection of our natural environment and the wellbeing of our guests, staff, and community.
