Amaroo Rainforest Resort Magnetic Island FAQ
Magnetic Island is a stunning Great Barrier Reef island just off the coast of Townsville in North Queensland, Australia.
The primary and most popular way to reach Magnetic Island is by ferry. Magnetic Island ferries offer convenient and regular services from Townsville, ensuring easy access to this idyllic escape.
Passenger Ferry: High-speed catamarans provide a swift journey for passengers. The passenger ferry departs from the Breakwater Ferry Terminal, also known as the Townsville terminal or Breakwater Terminal, located in South Townsville. This passenger ferry service is efficient, taking approximately 20-25 minutes to reach the island. Services run frequently throughout the day, so while pre-booking isn’t always strictly necessary for walk-on passengers, it’s advisable during peak seasons or for specific departure times to guarantee your spot.
Car Ferry: Can you take a car over to Magnetic Island? Yes, you can certainly take a car on the ferry to Magnetic Island. A dedicated car ferry service also operates from the South Townsville area. This is ideal if you plan to explore the island extensively at your own pace and prefer the convenience of having your own vehicle. The car ferry typically takes a bit longer than the passenger ferry, around 40-45 minutes.
Amaroo Rainforest Resort is a relaxing island getaway, located just eight kilometres off Townsville. Set within 10 acres of lush tropical gardens in Nelly Bay, we are located at 61-79 Mandalay Avenue, 4819 Nelly Bay, Australia.
This depends on your itinerary and how long you plan to stay. For a short day trip, relying on the island bus or hiring a scooter might be sufficient. However, for an extended stay or if you plan to visit some of the more secluded areas or engage in extensive activities, taking your own car can offer greater flexibility and convenience.
If you don’t want to drive, there is a local bus service that connects the main townships and attractions. You can also hire scooters or bicycles for a fun way to explore the island. Many popular spots are also accessible via walking trails.
There is a public bus and transport fares are only a 50 cent flat rate regardless of how far you travel on the network. Check out the Kinetic bus timetable route 250 as a guide. The bust stops at our bust top close to the times shows for ‘Nelly Bay Supermarket/ Kelly Street’ Route 250 | Translink
